CHRIST IS THE ANSWER MINISTRIES

THE DANIEL AWARD OF EXCELLENCE WINNERS 4TH QUARTER 2009

EMPLOYEE OF THE QUARTER

STEVE S. SITUMA, HR DEPARTMENT

Going way beyond the call of duty.

It had been felt for a long time that there were HR functions that were being run from the finance office that ideally needed to be managed from the HR department. In particular was the running of the staff payroll. The problem had been that he HR department did not have capacity to manage the function as it was felt that to manage a payroll of over 300 staff, we needed someone with prior experience or one with at least some accounting knowledge.

When the issue of running payroll from the HR department came up, Steve offered to take on the challenge although it was something he had never done before and he has no accounting background. Steve started learning from Humphrey, the Senior Accountant, how to run the payroll around July and a transitioning of payroll to the HR department started thereafter. By October, the payroll was running fully from HR department.

Steve went beyond the call of duty by taking on a task which he has no prior experience or training because he, like many others, believed that managing payroll from HR department would remove bottlenecks and unnecessary duplication and thereby improve efficiency in managing of staff salaries. His getting out of his area of expertise and learning something new that has led to greater efficiency in our processes is very commendable.

Thank you for the good work and God bless you.

EMPLOYEE OF THE YEAR

PAUL OPIYO: BURUBURU

Giving extra-ordinary service

When thugs struck on more than one occasion or when a vehicle crashed through the perimeter wall and whenever there were security related issues, he took on the role of security officer and executed it diligently and sacrificially. When the form four candidates started exams and a driver was needed to pick up the exams by 7am, or whenever there were errands that needed to be attended to and there was no available driver, he took on the role of driver. He was also often seen in town or at Head Office having jumped into a matatu to pick or deliver packages. He was also on occasion seen attending to visitors at the from office. His job title is a caretaker but in 2009, he demonstrated flexibility that is commendable and highly appreciated.

Thank you for the good work and God bless you
