THE CITAM MISSIONS AND OUTREACH. CITAM missions and outreach department was established in 2004. The main objective of the department is to ensure effective and coordinated outreach function of the CITAM ministry both to those who are unreached and un-Churched. In the process converts are won to Jesus Christ which necessitates the establishing of functioning, multiplying, local congregations who will bear the fruit of Christianity in that community and country. However CITAM does no plant branch churches in the mission field except in major urban centres.
The mode of operation
- Either we send missionaries to plant churches which are eventually facilitated to operate autonomously when the CITAM missionaries leave.
- We send our own missionaries to work with other mission agencies in places which are significantly covered by the mission agency but there be need for more missionaries.
- We mobilize and equip members of or assemblies to go out as tent makers.
- Other times we send financial, material and technical support to mission agencies and churches which are involved in missions.
- We also work through our branches to reach the unreached people groups within the urban centres.
- In partnership with mission agencies we encourage our members to go out for short term exposure in missions
On the other hand, through our outreach arm we preach the gospel in areas or among people where the church already exists: this includes, evangelism, church planting, media and social action
At the missions department we identify mission and outreach needs and then advice the CITAM leadership accordingly. We also mobilize and equip our (CITAM) membership for missions.
Currently CITAM is involved in Northern Kenya frontier with a mission centre at Marsabit. At present moment, there are four fulltime missionaries based in the northern frontier mission field. CITAM has adopted three people groups: Samburu, Borana and Rendille .We are working with more than 20 indigenous pastors among these people groups to establish self-supporting, self propagation and self governing churches. CITAM also has provided over Ksh 60 million in mission support in the last five years. This includes support extended to individuals, Christian organizations, and other churches for outreach and missions. All CITAM assemblies are engaged in various forms of evangelization including and not limited to: one-on-one, mass evangelism, outreach to schools and colleges, roadside shows, tracts/CD/DVD distribution and other contemporary methods. The drama heaven’s gate and hell’s flames has had great impacts in the lives of many people. At assembly level, each assembly has a pastor-in-charge of outreach work and a fully functional outreach and mission committees. Through social action, CITAM currently has put some efforts in HIV/AIDS programs based at the assemblies, rehabilitation of street children, at Kiserian children's centre and rehabilitation of victims of substance abuse by our partner organization (U-turn for Christ).based in Ngong town. We have also purchased a property at Marsabit for the northern frontier mission station.
We have seen the great work of God through the missions department and for that reason we are determined to press on until the gospel of grace of God reaches all men starting from Kenya to the ends of the earth.
