On Saturday, 5th December 2020 at CITAM Karen, Rev. Calisto Odede was consecrated as the 3rd Presiding Bishop of CITAM.The event was attended by a few guests, including His Excellency President Uhuru Kenyatta and the rest of the congregants and friends followed on Hope TV, Hope FM, and social media platforms including CITAM Church Online.
The consecration meeting is a culmination of a transition process as stipulated in the CITAM Constitution. The process of identifying the next Presiding Bishop began in November 2020 and was concluded in February 2020 by the Council of Elders. Plans were set to have Rev. Calisto Odede, the Bishop Designate, presented to Annual Delegates Conference (ADC), the CITAM’s supreme decision-making organ, for ratification on 25th April 2020 and thereafter, on 6th June 2020 be officially consecrated as the next Presiding Bishop. However, with the onset of COVID-19, the government suspended all physical meetings and consequently the ADC had to be called off indefinitely.
Finally, after months of waiting, the Registrar of Societies gave CITAM a green light to hold ADC. Rev. Calisto Odede was ratified in a unanimous vote on 17th October 2020 by the Annual Delegates Conference (ADC) as the next Presiding Bishop of CITAM. According to CITAM’s constitution, the Presiding Bishop can only serve a maximum of 10 years.
During the consecration. Rev. Calisto Odede while receiving the baton from Bishop David Oginde noted, “As I take on this responsibility, I approach this great office “in weakness, in fear and in much trembling” as the Apostle Paul spoke to wrote to the Corinthian Church in 1 Cor.2:3.”
He added, “I can only depend and rely on his Holy Spirit and grace who has affirmed to us that his “strength is made perfect in weakness.” (2Cor.12:9). He certainly will give the divine enablement for the journey ahead.”
